How BTS members rose to success in K-Pop
For people who don’t know BTS, their success may have come off as a surprise, but their rise to the top was neither predicted nor easy. The group comprises seven members, Jin, Jimin, Suga, V, RM, J-Hope, and Junkook, all of whom came from different parts of Korea. This idol group from a small company, Big Hit Entertainment, debuted in 2013, but even their debut was nothing more than a fluke. And even after they debuted, their troubles were far from over, and their company even came very close to bankruptcy. So, how exactly did a small group from a small company manage to become the monumental figures they are today? Well, there are quite a few unique things about BTS, so let’s address some of them.
Staying True to Themselves
Big Hit Entertainment has very unique values, and its mission statement is “artists and music for healing.” The company wanted a boy group that wasn’t groomed among studio culture but real boys who had the freedom to share their authentic personalities with the world. And this is exactly what BTS is about, loving yourself, staying true to yourself, and accepting one another despite the differences.
Leading By Example
Despite their popularity, BTS has managed to stay humble. And because they are so in touch with their roots, they are extremely charitable. But BTS rarely publicize their donation, and fans don’t know unless a news outlet discovers it and writes an article about it. In 2020, BTS and Big Hit Entertainment donated 1 million dollars to the Black Lives Matter movement, and when their fans got wind of this, they matched BTS’s donation in just 24 hours.
Their only publicized donation, titled Love Yourself Campaign, was in partnership with UNICEF, and 100 percent of the proceeds were pledged to protecting youth and children around the world. Their fan base called the Army got inspired by this campaign and created a donation website, “One In An Army”, and in 2019 alone, they organized more than 300 donation campaigns all around the world.
Their Talent
While people may think the members are naturally gifted, and some of them are, it is their hard work and dedication to their craft that has brought them where they are today. Even before their debut, the members were highly involved in creating their own music. From their debut album all the way to their most recent one, all seven members have contributed as writers and or producers in all the albums.
