Ariana Grande’s ‘Positions’: Every Song Ranked
After a whole year of the pandemic, Ariana Grande finally brought back some fun and joy in our lives with her Positions album. Released in 2020, this album featured many amazing songs, and while Ariana herself declared that this album featured some of her best work, not all songs in the album are equal. So here is a ranking of all the songs in Positions.
1. POV
This is easily the best track on the album, with Ariana’s heavenly whistle notes and the smooth instrumentals. This is one of the dreamiest love songs Ariana has ever written.
2. My hair
While most think this song is about Ariana’s luscious locks and her iconic ponytail, and it is, the story doesn’t simply end there. This song is a call back to her Victorious days when she played the well-loved character of Cat. During her time on the show, she was forced to dye her hair red every week, which led her to damage her natural hair. She is definitely reclaiming her hair in this song.
3. 34+35
This is definitely the most sexual song on the list, and if you can do simple math, you will probably know what the title of the song means. The sensual beat accompanying Ariana’s god-like vocals is heaven to the ears. It is no surprise the song ranked at the top of the charts around the world.
4. Safety net
The R&B track with Ariana and Ty’s amazing harmony elevates this song like no other. The smooth song accompanies the instrumentals perfectly.
5. Positions
The mixture of incredible wordplay, R&B, and pop combine together to create the song that has us all dancing.
6. Off the table
Featuring the iconic The Weekend, this song is slow and melodic and almost sounds like a lullaby.
7. Nasty
This song is just as sexual as 34+35 but not as well executed, which is probably why it is so low on the list.
8. Just like magic
Even though the song has an upbeat tone and amazing lyrics, it wasn’t memorable.
9. Obvious
The song is a mixture of love and lust, with a sprinkle of piano, and is constantly moving.
10. Shut up
The ornamental strings coupled with Ariana’s superior lyricism make this an incredible song. However, it is repetitive at times.
11. West Side
While this song has the same R&B feel as Safety Net, it is pretty repetitive and didn’t stick with the listeners.
12. Love language
While no one can argue that Ariana’s vocals on this track are superior, the disco theme doesn’t work and almost feels awkward.
13. Six-thirty
Even though the song is cheeky and endearing, it is again very repetitive.
14. Motive
While this song had a lot of hype surrounding it, it just didn’t match up to the other songs on the album. And in the end, the EDM beat alone wasn’t enough to carry this track.
