Upon submitting his material to SoundCloud in 2015, Daniel ended up spending a few years developing his skill — and upgrading his recording equipment. But it was not until he released "Pretend" in 2017 that Taz Taylor, from Internet Money, noticed his efforts. Daniel got a message from Taz Taylor a few months later, proposing to take flight him out to Los Angeles.

Taylor's Internet Money Records first recorded and streamed his heartache single "Falling" during Daniel's first session. The song received little notice when it was released in October 2018. "Falling" began to climb the charts almost a year after its first release in late 2019, despite little playlisting on streaming platforms and almost no marketing. Daniel had no idea that his song was getting viral on TikTok.

Daniel did not have a TikTok account at that time. While other musicians might run out of patience with a song's sluggish rise to fame, Daniel appreciated the time it took for "Falling" to gain fame since it allowed him to flourish as an artist and see his fans expand.

Trevor Daniel Finally Found His Footings

Being a newcomer to the music world can be intimidating, but Trevor Daniel has navigated the waves of celebrity well. The song also became Daniel's first Billboard Hot 100 charting hit, landing at number 17 — a remarkable feat for a first attempt.

Daniel commented on Instagram that he was "speechless" and he considers the song's late popularity to be a blessing in disguise. Trevor Daniel's debut album, Nicotine, was released in March 2020 with Finneas, Billie Eilish's brother and collaborator, co-wrote the song. Daniel showed that he's more than a one-hit sensation with this album, which included a solid ten tracks.
